The Shift

On June 13th, Roger delivered a lesson on “The Shift” focusing on the baseball defensive strategy of moving fielders to where the batter is most likely to hit based on data.

The lesson goes all the way back to Ted Williams, whom the shift was first done to, as he maintained a .400 batting average back in 1941! This record has not been beaten in the 80 years since!

Roger then goes into what “The Shift” in baseball is, talks about some spiritual “shifts” we see in life and in scripture, then shares some definitions of “shift” or “shifting”.

The next portion of the lesson looks at the specifics of “The Shift” and how it works in baseball with images from some great online resources. He also notes that part of the topic is how the batter must contend with the this technique to get them out.

Following the “baseball” side of the lesson, Roger turns to our spiritual game. What does Satan do to thwart us in his “shift”? How do batters and Christians play against the shift? What are we aiming for? How do we check our swing? Where is Satan? How can we get around him? Who are we aligning ourselves with? How can we lead the team in the right direction?

For the many questions above, Roger shares some great passages from the Bible to help equip us to WIN!

He concludes the lesson by reminding us that success requires effort and he notes that sin is easy.

The recording of the lesson is below along with slides from the lesson. We hope you get time to listen and that the lesson strengthens you!
