The Conscience and Response to Sin

In Acts 9:1-2, we read “Then Saul, still breathing threats and murder against the disciples of the Lord, went to the high priest 2 and asked letters from him to the synagogues of Damascus, so that if he found any who were of the Way, whether men or women, he might bring them bound to Jerusalem.”

How could Christ select Paul as a “chosen vessel” when he was doing so much against the church? Paul acknowledges that he did all this in good conscience. Had he only relied on his conscience to guide him to righteousness, he would have no hope. But Christ and others showed him that the program he was operating from what corrupted.

Matthew begins his lessons today looking at the conscience and how we all deal with the good and bad of it, and how important it is that we make sure it is working properly.

The second lesson looks at our response to sin, which is often a direct result of how accurate our conscience are working with regard to how God sees things.
