The Church at Laodicea

On October 3rd Cody presented a lesson on The Church at Laodicea. He begins the lesson with a history on Laodicea, where it was, its Greek history, when it was founded, and its role as a chief city of history.

He notes that one of the main reasons for the city’s prestige was due to it being on a crossroad of a major highway of the time. He also shared a map of the location and that there was a school of medicine in Laodicea!

The city also had an aqueduct supplying water to its residents including hot, volcanic spring water. He shares photos of these old structures still visible today.

This segues into the language used by John in Revelation to note their “lukewarmness” to which the Lord has little to say about.

Additional information is shared regarding the remains of the city and how it has not been fully excavated yet but you can still see a large stadium and amphitheater.

Cody poses the question of a “Philemon” per inscription found in the area, could it be the “Philemon” of the bible? His last two points are “What shall they buy?” and “Dine with the Lord”.
