1 Corinthians 1:10-13 – “Now I plead with you, brethren, by the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, that you all speak the same thing, and that there be no divisions among you, but that you be perfectly joined together in the same mind and in the same judgment. For it has been declared to me concerning you, my brethren, by those of Chloe’s household, that there are contentions among you. Now I say this, that each of you says, “I am of Paul,” or “I am of Apollos,” or “I am of Cephas,” or “I am of Christ.” Is Christ divided? Was Paul crucified for you? Or were you baptized in the name of Paul?”
The church belongs to Christ. We are His body on earth today. While we all have those among us whom we most enjoy time with, or look to for insight, wisdom, or support, Christ is to be our focus and only He and God. As noted in the passage above, some devote their spiritual journey in life based on individuals. This can be a danger as all humans are fallible. The church is full of imperfect people, but together we look towards Christ for our salvation.
1 Corinthians 10:12 – “Therefore let him who thinks he stands take heed lest he fall.”
1 Timothy 4:16 – “Take heed to yourself and to the doctrine. Continue in them, for in doing this you will save both yourself and those who hear you.”
