Following a lesson Abe had done a while back, and some things I was thinking about regarding how people use some really bad words or don’t watch what or how they say things, I posted the text below on our church Facebook page last week. The post was more popular than I expected, as it has reached 375 people to date since. So I am re-posting the content here for others to read:
Have you started to use the words for OMG regularly? Find some swear words or cursing creeping into your vocabulary? Here are some passages to think on…
- Colossians 4:6 (NKJV) – “Let your speech always be with grace, seasoned with salt, that you may know how you ought to answer each one.”
- Ephesians 4:29 (NKJV) – “Let no corrupt word proceed out of your mouth, but what is good for necessary edification, that it may impart grace to the hearers.”
- James 1:26 (NKJV) – “If anyone among you thinks he is religious, and does not bridle his tongue but deceives his own heart, this one’s religion is useless.”
- Exodus 20:7 (NKJV) – “You shall not take the name of the Lord your God in vain, for the Lord will not hold him guiltless who takes His name in vain.”
- Matthew 12:36-37 (NKJV) – “But I say to you that for every idle word men may speak, they will give account of it in the day of judgment. For by your words you will be justified, and by your words you will be condemned.”
- Ephesians 5:4 (NKJV) – “neither filthiness, nor foolish talking, nor coarse jesting, which are not fitting, but rather giving of thanks.”
- Romans 12:14 (NKJV) – “Bless those who persecute you; bless and do not curse.”
- Proverbs 10:31 (NKJV) – “The mouth of the righteous brings forth wisdom, but the perverse tongue will be cut out.”
To make change, we must all take note of our habits, look at what God’s word says for us to do, and then work on making changes.
