No Need for “Versus”

For as long as I have been alive and able to think on my own, the battle between religion and science has raged. The division between those who believe in God + creation and those who believe in a non-God universe often seems far too sharp to ever have resolution.

But I would suggest that the divisions are not nearly as far off as we have all come to believe. Let’s remember that science is not the end-all, be-all to knowledge. The very definition of science tells us where science’s strong point is:

Sci·ence [sahy-uhns] noun

  • Systematic knowledge of the physical or material world gained through observation and experimentation. [dictionary.com]

Did you catch that? It takes observation and experimentation for science to draw their conclusions. So for us to just accept that what science tells us is fact for something in which they can neither see, nor observe, nor replicate is without certainty.

Note the difference between the definitions of the word “theory” and the word “hypothesis“…

The·o·ry [thee-uh-ree] noun.

  • A coherent group of tested general propositions, commonly regarded as correct, that can be used as principles of explanation and prediction for a class of phenomena. [dictionary.com]
  • Note that the definition of “theory” includes “testing”. So in order for a scientist to claim they have a theory on something, it must be tested, or reproduced to be labeled as such.

Hy·poth·e·sis [hahy-poth-uh-sis] noun

  • A proposition, or set of propositions, set forth as an explanation for the occurrence of some specified group of phenomena, either asserted merely as a provisional conjecture to guide investigation. [dictionary.com]
  • Note that the definition of “hypothesis” is a proposition, or an educated guess about something that is not reproducible.

So what is up with the definitions? Well, our schools teach kids about the “theory of evolution” and they have for many years. The idea of “creation” is laughed at. However, the “theory” of evolution as used by science and in schools, should actually be called the “hypothesis of evolution” because there was no scientist around to see the formation of the universe. How the world came to be where it is, how the sun appeared and was lit up, how millions of other stars each with their own solar systems and planets and moons, all a mystery. The “big bang” is the best guess, but how it happened and why is unknown.

So what does this have to do with the title of this post, “No Need for Versus“? A lot.

First, science rules the world in our time and has for hundreds of years now. Educated men and women in science certainly know much, and have done amazing things for our lives. However, much of the success of scientists has been regarding the very things the word “science” means, they observe things, they try to find out how those things work, and when possible, they fix things or help us know how to fix things especially with regard to our bodies.

Where we have gone too far is allowing science to forcibly dictate what they feel is true, is absolutely true and infallible.

How many times have we seen scientific decisions regarding our health, the environment, or our society be found incorrect, only to be revised – and that is with observable things! Letting science tell all humanity that they are alone, that they came from nothing, and are destined for nothing is a crime. Nearly everything around us creates or has been created! The chain of creation goes on, to say it never started out that way is ignoring the obvious.

It is utterly foolish for a scientist to look around all all of life, see stars burning across the universe, to see planets in their orbits around suns of burning gas, even to produce plants, animals, and humans to say “all this came from nothing”. Seriously? That type of faith is WAY beyond the faith of one who believes in God. Just because the universe is so big, does not mean a Single Being was not capable.

Ever see the skyline of New York City and think, ‘wow, this just appeared?’ That would be foolish. Look at your hands how they are made. Look at your body, how you can stand on 2 legs and feet! Look at your eyes, and watch it adjust as you look around. Look a the trees, and the animals! I am an artist and I can tell you that trying to get both sides of an animal or person to look alike is tough. Yet the designs and diversity of animals is without compare – all starting form a single coded cell!!

There is SO much evidence of God, to deny it is lunacy. Don’t be a lunatic, use your brain, and think for yourself, don’t let science blind you.

The title of this post is about how science and and intelligent design, God, and creation can be parallels, not either/or. Here’s some things to consider:

  • Science: Big Bang forms universe…
    • Religion: God’s Creation is spoken into existence
  • Science: Single cell life evolves into many forms up to man…
    • Religion: The Genesis story shows life started small and took many forms until man
  • Science: Tells us the earth was once covered with water and that tiny sea creatures can be found on mountains…
    • Genesis tells us the earth was covered in water in the beginning, and that God made dry land appear

To be continued…
