Our entire lives, beginning before we are born, is typically a life of choices that effect who we are or who we’ll become. These choices may be asking a young man or woman out on a first date that leads to marriage and our birth. It may be a choice made by our parents on where they would live, affecting our childhood, our influences, etc. Each moment of our lives is a choice.
Often the choice of playing a sport can bring success, fun, or even injury. Spiritually the choices we make have an even greater impact on our lives. Who we marry. Who we find attractive (a face, a body, or behavior?). Our plans for the future (selfish or focused on raising a godly family?). Where we’ll go to church (or how often!).
Perhaps of all the questions asked by men about things spiritual is Joshua,
Joshua 24:15 – “And if it seems evil to you to serve the Lord, choose for yourselves this day whom you will serve, whether the gods which your fathers served that were on the other side of the River, or the gods of the Amorites, in whose land you dwell. But as for me and my house, we will serve the Lord.”
This question can easily be asked today, though the other nations may have changed.
The passage below is one all Christians need to be convicted of before they ever walk out the door each day, especially our youth. Our kids often are taught or assume that anyone who is a teacher, is well-educated, or is successful in business is “right” in all they think, say, or do. The passage assures us that no matter how much learning others may have, they may be fools in understanding God. But know that we can understand God, His Word has the ingredients to life – here and forever.
1 Corinthians 1:18-25 – “For the message of the cross is foolishness to those who are perishing, but to us who are being saved it is the power of God. For it is written: “I will destroy the wisdom of the wise, and bring to nothing the understanding of the prudent.” Where is the wise? Where is the scribe? Where is the disputer of this age? Has not God made foolish the wisdom of this world? For since, in the wisdom of God, the world through wisdom did not know God, it pleased God through the foolishness of the message preached to save those who believe. For Jews request a sign, and Greeks seek after wisdom; but we preach Christ crucified, to the Jews a stumbling block and to the Greeks foolishness, but to those who are called, both Jews and Greeks, Christ the power of God and the wisdom of God. Because the foolishness of God is wiser than men, and the weakness of God is stronger than men.”
