Following the mob that attacked the U.S. capital recently, Kyle’s lesson today was entitled, “Mob” starting out with groupthink, mob mentality, and herd mentality.
Some of the examples of this he gives is when Moses was on the mountain and it took him a while to return, the people had Aaron make gods for them. While the people as a group thought this was good and celebrated this event, God and Moses did NOT like it. The mob or group mentality was not in line with God’s plan.
Similarly, in the New Testament, we see this same effect on the mob that gathered to go after and arrest Jesus. They were ready for a fight!
Later we once again see this behavior when Jesus is being crucified and the people ask for Barabbas the murderer to be freed and the Son of God (they didn’t believe in) was whom they wanted to be killed.
He talks about the multitudes that rose up against the apostles in Acts 16:20-24, 17:5-6, 17:13-15, and other places. But he also shows how to avoid this type of behavior in being slow to anger, and in ruling over a person’s spirit. A fool is not able to do this. They vent. Most of all a soft answer turns away wrath.
