Counting the Cost

2 Samuel 24:24“Then the king said to Araunah, “No, but I will surely buy it from you for a price; nor will I offer burnt offerings to the LORD my God with that which costs me nothing.” So David bought the threshing floor and the oxen for fifty shekels of silver.”

When it comes to our salvation, there should be no price too great for us to inherit eternity with God in heaven. Jesus taught some excellent parables on just this point. But Abe’s lesson today reminds us that for anything good, there is a price to pay. Jesus told his Apostles to expect persecution for being a follower of Him. Christians today dealt with challenges too – IF we are doing what we should. Satan has no interest in someone who is a sinner, that person already has selected their destination – until they change.

As a congregation, there are things that we members need to expect to pay for, both in funds and in effort. This lesson reminds us why we need to stay the course and run the race set before us…

1 Timothy 6:18“Let them do good, that they be rich in good works, ready to give, willing to share”
