1 Corinthians 16:1-3 – “Now concerning the collection for the saints, as I have given orders to the churches of Galatia, so you must do also: On the first day of the week let each one of you lay something aside, storing up as he may prosper, that there be no collections when I come. And when I come, whomever you approve by your letters I will send to bear your gift to Jerusalem.”
As part of Abe’s series, “Christians and the Collective” today’s lesson dealt with the funds we as a church contribute to, and what authority we have to use those funds for OR what we can’t.
Many churches in the world today spend funds from the church’s contributions for all sorts of things: dinners, music, seminars, sports, recreation, entertainment, and travel. The lessons take a look at those tendencies, then shines a light on scripture to see what we KNOW are authorized things and what we can see throughout the Bible is not a mission of the church. Many things are permissible by individuals, but not all things are allowed as a church. As with this series, the point is to see what God’s Word has for us today, in the text of the New Testament.
As always, if you hear something you want clarification on, or have an issue with, don’t keep it to yourself, ask the question on our contact page.
