Revelation 3:7-8 – “And to the angel of the church in Philadelphia write, ‘These things says He who is holy, He who is true, “He who has the key of David, He who opens and no one shuts, and shuts and no one opens: I know your works. See, I have set before you an open door, and no one can shut it; for you have a little strength, have kept My word, and have not denied My name.”
Each local church is measured by the standards of Jesus Christ. What we might think of as strong, God might consider weak. What we think of as doing well might be doing wrong. We need to be careful to use God’s standards, not our own. A local church is as strong as the Christians who assemble there. The church at Corinth seemed to be larger in number, with many members have many talents, many having wealth and many well respected by others. In God’s assessment, they needed to make many changes to be as God would have them to be. We will take a quick look at what God considers strong and what God considers weak. First let’s look at what God considers to be weak and needy in a local church.
